Welcome to The 16 Great-Greats Project! The journey to document the lives of my children’s sixteen great-great-grandparents.
This project is a chance to hone my genealogical research skills, adhering to the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS)1 through thorough research and careful citation. I interpret evidence to build cohesive narratives, addressing contradictions to ensure accuracy. The goal is not only to deepen our understanding of each ancestor’s life but also to sharpen my genealogical skills, equipping me to present well-reasoned and credible histories.
Using the ahnentafel numbering system, each ancestor is assigned a unique number based on their relationship to my children, providing clarity as we explore their stories through records, memories, and history.
My children’s eight paternal great-great-grandparents are numbered 16 through 23, reflecting my own lineage. Their eight maternal great-great-grandparents are numbered 24 through 31, representing the family history of my wife, Victoria.
The endeavor will also sharpen my storytelling skills—blending facts, historical context, and oral histories to honor each individual’s story. As I progress, I grow not only as a researcher but as a storyteller, preserving these legacies with care.
Each ancestor’s life is a tale of perseverance, triumphs, and struggles. This project seeks to honor their memories and preserve their histories for future generations.
